This NESA ACCREDITED self-paced, on-demand course provides in depth professional learning for teachers new to HSC Chemistry and also experienced teachers seeking further development and a massive amount of resources around Organic Chemistry.

During this course, participants will:

  • Learn the content for HSC Chemistry Module 7 with 26 theory videos plus supporting slides, so they in turn will be able to best teach Organic Chemistry and support student learning:
    • Nomenclature
    • Hydrocarbons
    • Products of Reactions Involving Hydrocarbons
    • Alcohols
    • Reactions of Organic Acids and Bases
  • Learn how to perform the mandatory and recommended experiments with 6 experiment videos, accompanying instructions and risk assessments

Completing Organic Chemistry for Teachers – HSC Chemistry Module 7 will contribute 7 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing Standard Descriptor 2.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher in NSW.

Course Delivered by Dr Col Harrison

Col began teaching in Sydney’s golden west in 1988. Since then he has worked in the public and private sector as well as holding several roles in teacher training and development with Peer Support Australia and Beaconhouse in the United Arab Emirates. He has HSC marking experience in Biology and Chemistry and has a YouTube channel to support flipped learning in the classroom. Col is the current Head of Science and Leader of Professional Learning at St Philip’s Christian College, Port Stephens.
