Capacity Building in Primary Science and Technology

Capacity Building in Primary Science and Technology is a course designed for the whole staff of individual primary schools. There is no more availability for 2019. For 2020, please contact us.

This course is aimed at helping primary teachers with building their confidence, self-efficacy and ultimately their capacity with teaching Science & Technology in primary school. Graded to the level of the teacher, and personalised to needs as identified by the teacher, this course will involve three one-on-one one-hour sessions with each teacher over the year. Within that time the teachers will be co-programming with the instructor, teaching lessons whilst being observed, discussing feedback and acting on it. Particular attention will be paid to teachers understanding the skills Working Scientifically and Design & Production, how they might look in the classroom and being able to design their own experiments through the identification of variables and following scientific inquiry. We will be examining various methods of science pedagogy to facilitate student acquisition of experimental skills. This course is designed to help teachers apply their knowledge of the content and teaching strategies of the Science & Technology to develop engaging teaching activities, contribute to collegial discussions about teaching Science & Technology and apply constructive feedback from the instructor to improve Science & Technology knowledge and teaching.
